  1. Hi Somira, hi James,
hope and guess, you are not affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami. Guess, you are to far ... no, far enough in the south. - Best wishes to you and yours! Georg

  2. Hi Somira and James, season greetings to you and all your kids. Best wishes for the coming year! To follow your blog, is a great enrichment for my life. I will include you in my Christmas prayers. (BTW: Particularly by Somiras photographs you celebrate the beauty and greatness of earth, life and man.) Georg

  3. Epic! Seems like everything was handled in a safe, efficient, and calm manner. You did what you had to do to under extremely difficult circumstances without letting your ego get in the way, for the opportunity to sail again, and thrive on as a united and loving family.

This quote by Hunter S. Thompson just came to mind after reading this entire story..... Not really knowing your family, other than the sense I have gotten from reading about this account, and your life together, this quote seemed fitting......

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”

Sailing in the big oceans some day is appealing to me, despite the harrowing experience you had... Thanks for sharing your adventure ! Peace....

  4. Thanks for taking the time to share your adventures, it is such an inspiration to me. Your photos are very beutiful. I'm in the process of building two rental cabins on my property here north of Wasilla, Alaska so I can rent them and my small house out to speed up my dream to cruise the deep blue, I'll be living in my van and my Mac26x to save up money quicker so I can buy a blue water boat. Thanks agian so much for taking the time to do this blog. Safe travels.

  5. I'm always hungry for your updates, and I've been following your journeys for for quite a few years now. I remember years ago seeing a picture of James towing baby Tormentina in a bike trailer in Patagonia (Patagonia catalog, I believe). The picture was pretty iconic for me, as my husband and I had been living a nomadic life as climbers for quite a few years. I was pregnant with my first at the time, settled down in Pennsylvania, and nervous that our wings would be clipped. The photo was so full of hope for me. Since then, I've read your blog during many late night feedings, in beds and in tents, now with two boys filling our lives. I miss the wild life and hope that we're able to win the fight against soccer leagues and two cars in the driveway and status quo. I'm sure that there's another side to the beauty and wildness and simplicity of your lives, and that the struggle can be intense. Please let me know if there's ever anything that you need. I'm still in Pennsylvania, and we have pretty meager means, but if your kids need a box of art supplies or new bike helmets or books, please let me know. You've provided me with so much.

    1. Thank you so much Leva... please connect on Facebook if you have a page. Appreciate so much your message. I will let you know if we need anything, but we are chock full - of love - these days with all these kids to experience life with.

  6. Howdy Salties,

We are a salty family reaching out to our fellow cruising families around the globe.
After searching the web we simply could not find a decent platform that facilitated cruising families to meet, exchange experiences and connect to a deeper level. In case you are aware of something similar that already exists, please let us know. We truly believe it would be great to have a beautiful platform dedicated to cruising families.
It is great to see that many of you are blogging about your trips or sharing it on social media but how amazing would it be for us to have a channel dedicated exclusively for families that are aspiring to or already “living the dream”?
Good news for all of us is that this platform is on developing stages. To build such platform takes time & effort which we have plenty of. But it also takes money and as we don’t have enough to kick off we have decided to start on Social Media.
You can support us simply by following The Cruising Family Channel on Facebook, Instagram and Youtube. We need to get visibility and see how many of you share the worth of this idea.
We would love to share some posts from your blog. The idea is that by sharing content it will redirect people to your site and it will increase engagement and traffic on the page. Until I have a great number of supporters I can't justify putting money to launch the platform or reach out to investors.
We have a boat and a dream, just like you. So hop onboard, share your experiences and let’s start building a community.
    Welcome to the family.
