Teatro Municipal José Bohr. This beautiful performing arts center was originally built in 1899 for José Menéndez and recently was restored in 2012.
Menéndez was a Spanish businessman who established himself in Argentinian/Chilean Patagonia & Tierra del Fuego. He was a very successful and influential figure during the booming days when Cape Horn was the major shipping route (pre-Panama Canal) and Punta Arenas was a strategically important port of call. His residence and business properties in Punta Arenas are some of the prettiest buildings in the city today.
