The Nacra F20 Carbon FCS in the waters of the Beagle Channel. Puerto Williams, Isla Navarino - CHILE / XII Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena (noviembre de 2015) |
Franck Cammas and the Julbo Sail Session Team arrived in Puerto Williams earlier this week to prepare for an expedition around Cape Horn in a Nacra F20 Carbon FCS. Cammus is a pro French sailor currently heading Groupama Team France, the French challenger for the 35th Americas Cup. The sailboat is a high performance catamaran developed and built by the NACRA design office and Morelli & Melvin design & engineering. The F20 is full carbon - hulls, mast, foils, and rudders - a flying machine that can reach speeds over 30 knots and is compact enough to be trailered, boxed, and flown into Navarino Island.
After getting approval by the Armada de Chile to depart Puerto Williams, Cammus' plan is to wait in Puerto Toro for a window to round the Horn in the flying cat, then make landfall to meet the lighthouse keeper & family.
