richmond yacht club & the auckland sailing community
Our crew would like to send our heart-felt gratitude to the Richmond Yacht Club in Auckland, New Zealand for hosting a Shipwreck Party in November to help raise Kiwi dollars for our replacement mast project. More important than the funds is the friendship that is helping us continue on this difficult rebuild project.
Auckland is very special in our hearts for many reasons, but particularly because New Zealand is the magic spot in this world where we started a family, had our third child, and got married. It is a place where we have forged many wonderful friendships and made life-long connections. It is a fantastic city full of great minds and big passion for sailing.
Pulling into this world port feels like coming home for our family, and for this reason, we consider Auckland to be a true home port for us.
Thank you to all our kind friends in the sailing community for all of your support and friendship & best wishes for upcoming New Year. We appreciate all of you and look forward to sailing home again someday to make more memories.

The Huerto scene on Camino 1 in Puerto Natales reminds James of 1968 all over again: drums, climbing, collections of hand-drawn topos, fires & long-haired hippies. There is a bouldering gym inside a dilapidated old horse stable filled with old mattresses that reminds me of our days of bouldering in the barn at Kevin Mahoney's farm-house in Madison, New Hampshire.

Tramites, tramites, tramites... After 17 months of forms, we are starting to understand the trail of paperwork that is typically involved with doing business in Chile. Notaries, lawyers, tax offices, signatures, stamps, fingerprints, etc., as we finalize the paperwork needed for our Chilean LLC, Anasazi Ltda., which allows us to work legally in Chile. Opening the doors to work opportunities in Chile puts us one step closer to getting the new rig.
This last round of paperwork meant taking the whole family off the island on a DAP Airlines twin otter to Punta Arenas. Thanks to Gobernación Provincial de Antártica Chilena office in Puerto Williams for providing our family with government subsized transport off the island.
My three musketeers are always excited beyond belief to do anything outside of the daily norm.

saturday provisions
Provisions are brought to Navarino Island once a week, 300 nm through the channels & 30 hours away from Punta Arenas. This makes Saturday's provisioning the best day of the week for getting fresh fruits & vegetables. By Monday or Tuesday it is slim pickings at the small grocery stores on the island, so we make it a point to head to town on foot with the kids, the Black Diamond 70L Touchstone Haul-bag our new "pick-up truck" for provisioning for our family of five.
