Perpertual world travel with our children since their births has allowed us to live a minimalist lifestyle, with very few things that we carry around with us besides the real basic life necessities.
When birthdays & holidays come around, we don't buy toys. Gifts from us usually involve tools, cultural events, art supplies, music, or some form of experience that supports a passion of their particular interest.
When we're in port, the kids have no-rules/free use of devices to watch movies, play games, and educate themselves. When there is internet, they binge on information & entertainment.
They make prolific art - paintings that get sent all over the world to friends they have met on their travels, natural sculptures or art installations that disappear with the elements, sketchbooks filled with drawings.
Physical recreation is a daily necessity and takes on a form that best fits our current environment.
Endless entertainment comes from the simple joy of exploring and physically experiencing the natural environment. My kids are interested in learning about the local flora & fauna, appreciating its beauty, danger, and also its delicacy. Through this interest, they grow a natural desire to preserve, protect & respect it.
Sea snails, urchins, coral, Hibiscus tiliaceus (beach maho), found shells, and the ebb & flow of the tide...
